Arrive at any time during business hours and you will be greeted by one of our friendly staff members.  The self-guided tour through this gallery-style Education Facility allows you to experience a fully-functioning Earthship that combines passive solar architecture, thermal mass construction, renewable energy, integrated water systems that include indoor food growing, and the use of natural and recycled materials.

We recommend you allow about an hour to see everything; there are media rooms and a gallery with exhibits, as well as outdoor pathways so you can get a better look at the ongoing construction projects.  As you walk through the building and the surrounding outdoor area at your own pace, signs, displays, information binders, videos, and slideshows will educate you on different aspects of the Earthship concept.  Please note that the Visitor’s Center is an Earthship designed to educate the public and is not set up as a fully-furnished home.

Books, videos, and other merchandise items are available for purchase in the main gallery space so you can continue to learn and share after leaving Earthship’s World Headquarters. These items can also be purchased from our online store.

Self-guided tours:  $7.00 plus tax.  Discounts available for students, teachers, current military and veterans, and seniors.  Children under 12 get in free.

In addition to the self guided tour that goes through our Earthship Visitor Center daily, we also have two kinds of guided tours.

Guided tours are generally reserved for groups of 10+, however, we can accommodate a smaller group for a minimum of $100.

Guided Tours

  1. The Guided Tour through our Earthship Visitor Center includes:  Admittance to the building which is very similar to a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom, packaged Earthship.  The floor plan of the building has been altered, and is set up like a gallery.  There is a 10 minute video and a 40 minute slideshow, along with lots of literature, exhibits, and photos.  There is also a gift shop and various pathways outside for you to walk and see the exteriors of some of the other structures in the immediate area.  One of our friendly staff members will be available to guide your group through this facility and answer all of your questions.

Cost for this tour is $7 plus tax per person -- Please schedule at least 1.5 hours.

     2. The Guided Tour through the Community includes:  The same tour through the Earthship Visitor Center, as well as a tour through several homes/buildings in the community.

Cost for this tour is $12 for students and $15 for adults (plus tax) -- Please schedule at least 2.5 hours.  This type of tour needs to start between 10:30 & 11:00am.

To schedule a tour, please contact the Earthship Visitor Center directly:  (575) 613-4409.  They can be reached Monday - Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm MST.

Michael Reynolds addresses the Flint, MI water crisis

Michael Reynolds addresses the Flint, MI water crisis In this short clip Michael Reynolds talks about the Flint, MI water crisis.  He points out that in New Mexico, where we only get 8" of annual precipitation, we are able to build buildings that harvest, filter and use their own water four times.  Flint gets 40" of annual precipitation and it should be be relatively simple to design rainwater harvesting systems that would provide clean water to the residents.  He...Read More
