Why did we choose to help Haiti

Haiti Disaster ReliefWhen we first heard about the earthquake in Haiti, we donated some money to help out. We didn’t really think much more about it after the entire buzz was gone. But then, a year after the earthquake I saw some pictures of the situation down there and thought to myself, ‘They still need some help. And so I want to help them.’ I told some friends about my idea, and they liked it too.

One day I discovered Earthship Biotecture through a CNN video, and I checked out their website.

Immediately we knew this was what we wanted to donate money to. What could be better than building a house out of reusable materials and on top of that the house would be permanent, earthquake and storm resistant and a Haitian family would have a home. We then organized a bake sale, which we held at our school, Friday the 15th of April. We were 7 girls who each had baked two to three cakes. So there was a lot of cake.

By the time we started to set up, there was already a giant line and all of the cake was sold before half an hour had gone. We hadn’t really expected that, but of course we were happy. We raised a grand total of 559 dollars (As of May 2nd since the dollar and the kroner always change, compared to each other). We are happy to help Haiti, and even more happy that we can do it from Denmark. We hope to do some more projects in the future.
