This workshop will focus on creating a 300 lb. Rammed Earth Tire Brick and building a structural wall from these bricks. We will show you how to properly pack dirt into a tire, how to stack the tire bricks and get them leveled. During the process we will also be cleaning up trash from empty lots in the area and packing it into the Rammed Earth Tire Bricks to get rid of the trash.
Music will be provided during the workshop by Brotha Onaci (Sonic Diaspora). Brotha Onaci is a turntable liberationist, educator, and amateur producer who uses music to bring progressive change to the world. A former Chicago resident, he helped co-found Sonic Diaspora and the People's DJ's Collective. Now in Philadelphia, Brotha Onaci spins at various venues and events in the area, as well as in DC and New York.
Please come prepared to get dirty but wear loose clothing as well... You never know what dance the Spirit may lead you to. If you have access to a shovel, sledgehammer, bucket or some sort of drum, bring it. A pair of gloves will also be useful to you.
