Hello, I was wondering if the Earthship owners out there could talk about their working status. Do they work? If so do they commute often? I would assume that it would be very hard to live without any money in the earthship, although much reduced costs. The question is, how do Earthship owners get in extra money if they live way out there away from civilixation, like in Taos,NM?

Problem is, even if you own your land and own your Earthship outright, you still have to pay annual property taxes.

Now, I don't really agree with this, but it is how it is. Why people should continue to pay for something they own, and have the possibility of having something they own taken away and auctioned to pay taxes... I know, it's to pay for schools and roads... But what if you home school and don't commute?

There are a couple options.
1) Have a job where you make sufficient money from home. This could be an organic farm, you could work for others in the community, or even hook up to the web and work an online business/data entry/etc.
2) Build an Earthship within commuting range of where you work.
3) Have enough money to retire. This may sound dumb but if you are fairly self-sufficient you would be surprised how little money you need to get along.

The operative word here is work. Almost anything you can do well and are willing to do enough of to call it work will make you a living. In general, the less other people want to do a thing, the more they are willing to pay someone else to do it. Skill is the same thing, the fewer people who can do it, the more you will get paid to work at it. Asking how other people make a living is not going to get a useful answer, you have to find out what skills you have and how much commitment you will apply to them.

That is a dangerously simplistic view of economics.
