School Community
We have class IV this year with a new staff recruited. Two of our teachers also have enrolled at the Freetown Teachers’ Training College to acquire state qualifications to meet policy requirements. The school population is 126 students (girls 81 and boys 45).
This build is a relief to all in the community and also to those connected to the long struggles to keep the school going amidst government continued pressure(previously). Now, government officials are so interested and looking forward to the completion of the structures. ‘This is a model school which education planners should pay attention to if children are to be motivated to learn in joy, peace and creativity’ says the Regional Education Officer.
The children are so excited that many have different images of the school in their minds- the children have described the school as thus: ”the school is like a beautiful flower’, ‘an egg’, ‘train’, ‘bus’, sea shells... But one description that left us thinking came from Ibrahim, age 8. He says ’when I entered the classroom, I felt like I’m on the moon, in heaven and looking out into the world through those colours.Infact the bottles and plastics designs on the walls are really beautiful stars..’

As at December 15, these local builders have been able to complete two more classrooms.

School Lunch
The school lunch project will be discontinued sometime in 2012 . Thus we have begun impressing on the minds of the children and families as funds will not be available to provide the most cherished school lunch on a daily basis. It is sad to end the year on such a note. However need to communicate this to the families and children very early to help children cope with this loss, long before it stops.
School Mail Box
We are finding it very difficult to receive post in the Rokel community. Also, previous postal addresses are no longer valid and post sent will not reach us. To address this situation, we have applied for a Private Mail Bag at the central post office. Early 2012, we will have a PMB for the school and it will be communicated to all our friends.
Thank you
The faculty and students of the Goderich Waldorf School wish to express appreciations to all our sponsors, supporters, donors, visitors and volunteers whose financial, material and advisory contributions provided us the resource to keep the school running and building project progressing.
