The demonstration building is made of local, recycled materials. It will catch clean water, harvest its own power from the sun, contain and treat its own sewage and provide strong, quick shelter.

This is not free, you must already have land, money, access to building materials and prepared to host a 12 person construction crew. We bring an army of interns as well, about 10 per week. Local electricians, plumbers, contractors and other tradespeople in local industry are always invited to participate and learn.

A sustainable home must make use of indigenous materials, those occurring naturally in the local area.

We must become more aware of where our sewage goes. Earthships contain, use and reuse all household sewage in indoor and outdoor treatment cells. This results in food production and landscaping with no pollution of aquifers. Toilets flush with treated gray water that does not smell.

Earthships catch water from the sky (rain & snow melt) and uses it four times. Water is heated from the sun and/or natural gas. Earthships can have city water as backup.

Earthships produce their own electricity with a prepackaged photovoltaic / wind power system. This energy is stored in batteries and supplied to your electrical outlets. Earthships can have multiple sources of power, all automated, including grid-intertie.

Earthships maintain comfortable temperatures in any climate. The planet Earth is a thermally stabilizing mass that delivers temperature without wire or pipes. The sun is a nuclear power plant that also delivers without wires or pipes.
