Uruguay Earthship School Project Update Jaureguiberry, Uruguay Winter 2015
Michael Reynolds traveled to Uruguay last week to meet with local organizers for the Earthship School project. During his time there he got to visit the site for the build, meet the children who will be attending the school, meet parents and local community members and work on evolving the design of the building. The school will now be a 2600 sq.ft. Global Model Earthship with three large classrooms. It will demonstrate all Earthship principles: building with natural and recycled materials, solar thermal heating and cooling, solar power production, water harvesting, contained sewage treatment and food production. This will be the first fully-off grid, sustainable public school in Latin America. Michael was well received by the national news media, local funders and the national architecture school where he did a lecture opening the semester for over 1,000 people.
Plans are still in the works to host a Global Academy Session in conjunction with the project. We hope to have specific dates set soon. More info on this session can be found here: http://earthship.com/uruguay
