Volunteers Wanted In South Carolina 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hello everyone, I'm in Pelion S.C. and I'm planning on starting my build in April, if all goes well. I have a consult with Michael the 16th of this month, after that I'm starting mine. I've got plenty of tires and access to as many as I can handle, all my friends are saving cans and bottles, getting ready to hit up some bars and try and get their beer bottles. I'm doing this on a super shoestring budget, so I should be able to get my main tire structure built and hopefully the roof. save a little more and build a little more, hoping to be done within a year, wish I could do it in a few weeks like many are done but can't afford that. I'll have to go slow and steady. I can't wait any longer, I want this so bad I can already smell the bananas growing inside. So if anyone would like to volunteer and learn something in the process, I'll feed all my help and help you build yours in return. Thanks and have a green day. Big Ken

That sounds great but the only place I would have for you to stay would be on my couch. Would love to come help build yours in return, never been to Alaska but always wanted to. I was hoping to find some people a little more local, which on here may be hard to do seeing as, I think I'm the only person from S.C. on here. I know a lady at my bank that knows an exec. with one of the local T.V. stations, she told me to let her know when I start building and she will contact har friend at the station and see if they'd do a report on the build, which is great, that would give some awareness to the Earthship concept, which is almost non existing in this backwards state I live in. I've talked to more people than I can count and explained and shown the books to and I've found only 1 person that's even heard of them. Everyone else I've talked with that hasn't heard of these love the concept and said they would love to live in one. I have 2 local people willing to help out, hopefully they'll stick to their word. Thanks for the reply.

Hey Big Ken,
I just googled "Earthship" and "South Carolina" and found your posting here. I was already a registered member this earthship.org site, so I'm psyched to discover another South Carolinian interested in this. On top of that, you've got a place to build, a bunch of tires, cans, & bottles, and maybe a few other extra hands. Have you gotten the project started yet?

I'm in Irmo, so Pelion's not really too far. I will come help out if you need an extra hand. I have a ton of tools and a pretty good bit of experience building on a budget. I have some interesting ideas we could try out, too... If you're up for some experimentation. I've put in a lot of time devising a system for easily and cheaply building ferrocement roofs.

Anyway, if you want a hand contact me. I have a flexible schedule, and I'll work a little for free just to help out and get experience on a earthship project.

Don't forget to post your request on eartship's Facebook page, any area Universities, Junior Colleges, Trade Schools, and you may want to create your own eship Pelion SC page on FB. Even give it a tweet on eships Twitter.

There are a lot of folks from all over coming and going so post updates often.

Good luck with your build. I can't wait to see your progress!

Thanks Bert, I'll need all the help I can get, I'm still clearing the land, I'm about a third of the way there on it, a few more trees to cut down, then I'll get a dozier and push up all the stumps and grade everything like it needs to be, know anyone with a dozier that would cut me a break? lol, When I get all that done I'll get the sawmill guy out get him to mill all the pines I've cut down, hoping to get enough lumber just off the land here to do the ceilings in the ship more. I've got you added in my address book, I'll be emailing you, If you also want to contact me that way or call 803-755-7045 that's fine, would love to hear the ideas you have, I'm always open to any suggestions. Thanks Man have a great day, Big Ken
