Thanksgiving in an Earthship
Cinnamon, apple cider, pies in the oven, stuffing and cranberry sauce, mmmmmm.
Some people have asked if cooking in an Earthship requires special
appliances/ utensils/ understanding.
The answer is no, all kitchens in the Earthships are pretty normal.
The kitchens of the Corner Cottage, Phoenix and Studio Earthship rentals,
have gas ranges and ovens, pots and skillets, one or two baking dishes, and place settings.
The refrigerators in the Phoenix and Studio are solar so their shape is a little boxier than conventional refrigerators but they have plenty of space. The freezer is little smaller than a conventional freezer. The Corner Cottage has a pretty small refridgerator and a freezer that would fit two pints of ice cream.
As for a table for your feast, the Studio has a small table and chairs for 2, the Corner Cottage a square table and chairs for 4 and the Phoenix has aŸ long rectangular table with room for 8.
After your meal the main road on the Community is a great place to stretch your legs and take in the beautiful northern New Mexico panorama.
Earthships are a great place to spend Thanksgiving!
I am always thankful for the thermal mass qualities of my Earthship during the Holidays when I see so many people gathering cord upon cord of firewood to keep them warm.
I am grateful that the power we use for the annual viewing of “Ben-Hur” (mandatory) is sun-powered. I am grateful for the blooming plants in the indoor planter.
I am thankful for my “recycled” house!
I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving, full of simple pleasures and loving company.
