Taos'd
Silence is what you hear in an Earthship built on a mountain side overlooking Taos. I opened my eyes this morning and the sight I beheld was so grande it was almost laughable. Actually, it was laughable, because I did LOL. This earthship is one of twelve built in a small community called R.E.A.C.H. - click to read more...

"Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he'll eat forever." After watching "Garbage Warrior", the documentary about Michael Reynolds, creator of the Earthship model and concept, I realized how true this idea is. When people are given the information and instruction to raise themselves up and sustain themselves in a way that also benefits and takes advantage of their natural surroundings, they will use these resources to amazing ends. Invisible Children partnering with Earthships is brilliant - a perfect match!"

=== Testimonials ===

"I have this theory that earthships could actually help solve or at least remedy a lot of the socio-political problems in third world country because it could make them independent of the corrupt economic system. i actually think this would help everywhere but it would probably make a more noticeable difference where there's more problems."

"The earthship is a liberation. We all, the earth, humans, all the creatures that live here, deserve to be liberated."

"I worked on one for a month in 1992. I LOVE this idea. The earth deserves all of our homes this way. ♥"

"Was wondering if that was ever going to happen around here...zoning etc....saw them in Taos in late 1999 and was smitten. Made my class watch Garbage Warrior this past summer- they loved it!"

"Loved the 'Garbage Warrior' cd .... a great lesson on how slow the legislative process is when someone attempts to legally go through the system to carry out 'building research'- a real eye opener!!"

"Hi everyone! Is there anyone who is building in The Netherlands?? I'd love to come and see / help / learn!! Keep up the great work!"

"good work guys! we are planning one in Transylvania"

Thanksgiving in an Earthship

I am always thankful for the thermal mass qualities of my Earthship during the Holidays when I see so many people gathering cord upon cord of firewood to keep them warm. I am grateful that the power we use for the annual viewing of “Ben-Hur” (mandatory) is sun-powered. I am grateful for the blooming plants in the indoor planter. I am thankful for my “recycled” house! - click to read more...

They're called Earthships, and they're about to change your life.

A few of us had the chance to spend a weekend with Jonah Reynolds and Paul America from Earthships recently. Jonah’s father, Michael, invented Earthships in the 1970s and he, Jonah and the rest of his team have been perfecting them ever since. In Michael’s own words, Earthships are “the logical response to what we’re facing in climate change and resource depletion.” - click to read more...

Earthships in New England?

I interviewed Jennifer Stacy, the New England Education Outreach Coordinator for Earthship Biotecture. Originally being from New Mexico, I had heard of Earthships before and understand much of its construction methods. When I found out there was a chance that one might eventually be built here in Massachusetts, I had to talk to Jennifer about it. Although Mike Reynolds introduced the idea of Earthships over 30 years ago, there has yet to be an Earthship built in Massachusetts. - click to read more...

Texas Earthship Build: Nov, 2009 Report

Damn it’s good to be back. Back to the outdoors… but not just any outdoors. Earthship outdoors. It’s like regular outdoors with the addition of 15 old friends, 15 new friends, classic humor and antics, an awesome learning experience and the most advanced green building on the planet. This time is easier in someways and harder in others. Easier, because I’m already established with the crew and am a welcome member of the team. Also easier because I’m staying with Jonah and Paul at the plush Crockett, TX Holiday In. Harder, well, because my foot is broken. Regardless, I made it working through the entire day today. Albeit slow going, but made it nonetheless and banged out a couple projects. - click to read more...

Earthship Crew Spotlight: Tim Parker

Like so many members of our crew, Tim Parker happened upon Earthships during a road trip to New Mexico. Tim’s background was in conventional housing construction but when he arrived in Taos 15 years ago, he was immediately impressed with the progressive green architecture mindset he found here, especially the Earthship concept. - click to read more...
