The festival took place at 29th and Chalmers, in Chalmers Park. This park was fought for by the people so that it remains the property of the residents. They have plans for the field that include many green project visions such as streams running through the park. LoveLovingLove presented Earthship Biotecture and Music Therapy De Escalation at this event. The Earthship Biotecture presentation is what I want to discuss today.
Earthship Presentation was held in the largest tent at the festival. After LoveLovingLove members took the stage and introduced the concept to the audience, they invited the listeners to visit the tent for literature, educational information, and a series of videos that Earthship Biotecture so graciously provided us with. The tent was equipped with a projector and screen and chairs for an audience to watch the video. There was also items sent from Rita B Management which were available for raffle. The tent had a. Earthship book, tires outside the tent were gloves, goggles, posters, and a sledgehammer was on stand by. The tent was very busy and maintained traffic throughout the event. We presented to many visitors including, the Fire Commissioner Mr Ayers, civic activist and Residents Coalition president Mr. Brickhouse, community activist and representative Ralph Wynder, and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.
The Mayor visited the tent and listened to a presentation about the success of Earthship throughout the world, the need for the technology here in the urban communities, the recent activity of the crew in Montana, and the historical importance of the first one here in Philadelphia. He was presented with a tee shirt that had the Festival info and "Earthship" a Eco Friendly House" with a smiling house on it, with the tagline earthship.org on it. I will send footage and pictures as soon as possible. I hugged him and told him " Lets make History Brother!". He said that he would get back to us. The Fire Commissioner commented after viewing the Hut video, "I really dont see any safety hazards, its pretty straightforward, lets have a meeting to discuss this further, I like this very much. I will update everyone on the status of this meeting, and the response from the Mayor. We have been invited to do it again at a event in September.
We plan to put the footage of the festival on MiND TV Ii two weeks. We have footage of some of the things that were said to the Mayor about Eathships, and him watching the video. This is exclusive footage since there were no media inside the tent. The Philadelphia Earthship Facebook page that was started by Mr. Jonah Reynolds is steadily approaching 500 members. ( that information was added to the Mayor's packet). The video with Ms. Kirsten Jacobson making cisterns was particularly empowering for women watching. One asked," how did she get out of there?". Many of the people watching the video asked if I lived in one. My response was, "one day."
This is a blessing to report to you all. We have been working very hard to make an Earthship build possible for the City of Philadelphia. We thank everyone who helped make this progress possible and we will continue to work until history is made! I also would like to thank Philadelphia Youth Advocacy group for all the work and volunteerism they serviced to this effort including, collecting over 87 signatures signatures to give to the Mayor! ( which are included in his packet). Thank you also all the members of LoveLovingLove who work passionately on Earthship project and strive to change the world everyday!
Warmest Regards,
Rashida Ali-Campbell

I am excited to write to you about the festival and the success of the Earthship Tent. The festival drew a crowd of over 2000 people, back and forth through the park. People were still arriving as we were leaving at 7pm. God blessed us with a sunny day. The evening before we got some serious rain and we were praying it didn't last. The show was opened with a step show and several of our city representatives came out for support including, Seth Williams ( D primary winner for D.A race) , Jannie Blackwell, Sharif Street, and the Honorable Mayor Michael Nutter. There were many vendors at the festival, there was also a basketball tournament, rides, and entertainment on the stage all day long.
