G.I.V.E. - Galapagos Institute of Village Ecologies
Vision
This is a schematic vision of a global sustainability institute/village on the Galapagos Islands. This institute will pursue carbon zero living methods holistically applicable to all the earth and all peoples. It will attempt to establish humans and the earth as allies. To forge a more appropriate and logical way of living on and with the earth.

Carbon Zero Buildings = Biotecture
The village will provide all of its own utilities and food based on the globally renown sustainable principles currently established by Earthship Biotecture. There will be an emphasis on reducing the distance that any given product or material used in the village has to travel, thus lowering the carbon footprint of such products and materials.
Multinational
People from all the countries on earth will (for a tuition) be invited to live and learn and pursue the art of living on the earth at the institute. Information and knowledge will be shared with the entire planet thus establishing the Galapagos Islands as a beacon to influence and inspire the rest of the world. Both the Galapagos Islands and Earthship Biotecture are already high profile entities relative to preservation and respect for the phenomena of the earth. The alignment of these entities has the potential to be a powerful force toward encouraging sustainable carbon zero development on the earth.
Specifics
The aim of these specifics is to take immediate advantage of Earthship Biotecture’s forty years of expertise in this realm and transfer the knowledge over a period of a few years to the Galapagos Islands citizens thus, creating specialized jobs and leaving the people of the Galapagos managing the most significant sustainable facility in the world. Earthship Biotecture will always have a presence in this project as partner or manager of the institute in order to pass know-how over as methods and systems are learned by the people of Ecuador.
There would be an effort to minimize or eliminate the influence of the global economy on this project. The care of people (all people) and the earth are the objectives of this project. Money is a tool. Politics and monetary gain are cards that must be played but they are not the game. It is recognized that funding is needed to start but the aim is to establish the project as a financially independent entity as soon as possible through the tuitions, visitor fees, accommodation fees, sales of educational materials, seminars, media location fees, etc.
The Greater World Earthship Community in Taos, New Mexico which hosts similar projects (partially funded by the governor of the state of New Mexico) will be a ‘sister’ project to this institute. This will make available an immediate base of operations for the Galapagos Institute of Village Ecologies (G.I.V.E.) during the launch phase.
Education
The learning / education begins on day one of the project build. All Earthship Biotecture builds already involve interns from around the world. Thus, the sustainable / green building / carbon zero education starts with the first modular building. Other aspects of general education will come as the project grows. This allows for the immediate generation of revenue from students / interns and some free labor to help with the first phase of building. Various companies from around the world can get carbon credit from providing tuition for interns / students to help build the project and from donations to the project. Carbon credit management programs already exist in the world today.
