Earthship Biotecture plans benefit seminar

Earthship Biotecture will be host a benefit seminar Sunday (Aug. 18) for those interested in learning more about building while aiding a good cause.

The Earthship workshop is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Taos Mesa Brewery.

The event will comprise of an all-day seminar with Mike Reynolds, Phil Basehart and the Earthship staff and crew. This will be followed by live music at 7 p.m. and other activities such as a raffle and family events.

The cost of the all-day seminar is $100. This fee covers lectures, video showings, a tire-pounding workshop and a Q&A session with Reynolds. Taos Mesa Brewery will provide lunch.

This fee will also allow for entrance to the live music which will be held in the evening.

Workshop participants will be working together with Taos Mesa Brewery to pound tires that will eventually serve as the brewery’s amphitheater.

All money raised from this event will be donated to Earthship Biotecture’s Malawi, Africa project this October. Reynolds and a crew will work with a team of volunteers to build an “Earthship Flower” community center.

According to the Earthship Biotecture, the Kapita Earthship Community Centre is to become a sustainable development epicenter for 38 villages and over 5,000 rural people in the South East Mzimba district in Malawi. The center will house a community bank, a mini-library, a dispensary, offices and a food bank.
