March Earthship Presentations
by Ms. Anne Tempel
The presentation will include a slideshow of pictures and projects that Earthship Biotecture has collected from various builds all over the world, including basic principles of an Earthship home (6 concepts – solar/wind electricity, thermal mass heating and cooling, water catchment and the recycling of water within the building, food production, self-contained sewage, and the use of recycled materials as building materials).
Anne will also be speaking about how to get involved, internships, learning opportunities, and education, as well as showing clips of the Guangzhou Earthship, talking about future plans in China, and offering a Q&A session for anyone who would like to get some specific answers.
Earthship – “Earthships are radically sustainable buildings made with recycled materials. Earthships can be built in any part of the world, in any climate and still provide solar power, catchwater, contained sewage treatment and sustainable food production.” See: http://earthship.com/
LEED – “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) consists of a suite of rating systems for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, homes and neighborhoods.” See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leadership_in_Energy_and_Environmental_Design
Speaker info: Ms. Anne Tempel
Anne has been working in the environmental field since 2006. For two years, she worked for the Department of New York City Parks and Recreation, first as a GreenApple Corps member learning and practicing ecological restoration, environmental education, and urban forestry. She then held the position of Urban Park Ranger for about a year. While involved in the Parks Department, Anne was selected to be a presenter for The Climate Project, where she received training from Al Gore and Climate Project Staff to present the slideshow as seen in the Oscar Award-winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth: http://presenters.climaterealityproject.org/
After re-locating to China in 2008 following a six-month visit in 2007, Anne taught students of all ages English and Environmental Awareness. After two years, she was awarded a Foreign Expert’s Award in Jilin Province. While in China, Anne discovered Earthships and was determined to bring the Earthship concept to China. As a veteran presenter living in China, Anne was asked to help facilitate the training of 250 Chinese nationals to be a part of The Climate Project – Beijing. In the spring of 2011, in coordination with Li Yian, Anne helped coordinate and build the very first Earthship in China in the Panyu District of Guangzhou. She would like to coordinate and build many more.
