Earthship Academy In the Field Studies

Field studies involve hands-on participation in an Earthship build and are offered in conjunction with Earthship builds in Taos, New Mexico and around the world.  Individuals who have completed the Introductory Course will receive priority for registration.  Two one-month long field studies must be completed to satisfy this requirement.

The purpose of these studies is to give hands-on building experience with Biotecture techniques and to expose students to the mental and physical environment of a Biotecture construction site and a Biotecture life.

Students will learn how to build a sustainable, independent Earthship from the ground up.

FIELD 1: One month
At least one month of field study should take place on a start-to-finish Earthship build.

FIELD 2: One month
To be completed during the two month session in Taos, NM.
One month of field study should take place in conjunction with or after the Pragmatic: Classroom courses are completed.  This month can take place on an existing Earthship project or on a retrofit of a pre-Earthship experimental building.

The mechanical field study aspect of this program will be composed of in-the-field work involving the studied areas. We will be installing the systems covered in these courses either on new buildings or building retrofits. Subjects covered will be from the design process all the way through to completion inclusive of construction, acquiring materials, regulatory management and any other aspects relative to properly installing a particular system.
