An Earthship is a radically sustainable building made of recycled materials.
An Earthship is defined by the following 6 principles:
An Earthship is a new kind of building, a new kind of architecture. It is so new, we call it Biotecture. However, we have been doing this for over 40 years.

Earthships provide security in economically unsecure times.
Earthships cost about the same as a conventional home, but a conventional home does not come with all the electricity and water you will use. A conventional home is bad for the planet, is not strong and uses materials that require a lot of fossil fuels to manufacture and get to your building site.
Earthships can provide you with carbon credits, tax incentives and a higher resale value.

Earthship Biotecture offers three weekend seminars each year at our headquarters in Taos, New Mexico. The seminars include a slideshow presentation and discussion, hands-on work including tire pounding, mudding and building a can wall, an extensive lecture series and a tour of several completed Earthships, including the Phoenix. Seminar attendees are responsible for their own accommodations, food and travel. Dinner is provided the first Friday evening.
Earthship “Builds” are opportunities to work side by side with our crew in locations all over the globe. Most builds will take an Earthship from to start to finish. Interns participating in these builds pay a registration fee and are responsible for their own accommodations, food and travel. Lunch is provided. Build Opportunities are posted on the front page of this site as they become available.
The Earthship Intern Program is a month long live/work/learn experience at our headquarters in Taos, New Mexico. Participants will live in an Earthship and work up to five days per week on Earthship projects in the Greater World Community.
Interns participating in this program pay a housing fee and are responsible for their own food and transportation. Those who complete the session will earn a certificate to attend an Earthship Seminar for free and may attend Academy classes at a discounted rate.
Graduates of the Academy earn a degree in Biotecture upon completion of 62 hours of classroom study, 2 months of field studies and an Independent Study. A degree in Earthship Biotecture makes one eligible for a paid leadership position in the Earthship Army. Anyone can enlist in the Earthship Army as an unpaid intern/soldier but a degree in Earthship Biotecture makes one eligible for a paid leadership position on Earthship Biotecture projects around the world. Earthship Biotecture will facilitate placement of Academy graduates in positions around the world where Earthship projects are happening.
Students of the Academy will live and work for two months in the historic Castle Complex in Taos, New Mexico. Students are responsible for tuition and their own food and transportation. A limited number of scholarships may be made available for each session. Past interns will receive field study credit for their previous work.
